HTC Launches Two New Smartphones

Taiwan based HTC Corp. has unveiled two new flagship devices, the HTC Touch Diamond2 and HTC Touch Pro2, which both support HTC's latest TouchFLO 3D interface.

TouchFLO 3D has been more deeply integrated into a customized version of Windows Mobile 6.1 to deliver more consistency throughout Windows Mobile applications and menus. Focused on making navigation easier and more intuitive, TouchFLO 3D brings important information to the top-level user interface, including quick access to people, messaging, email, photos, music and weather.

As part of this improved Windows Mobile integration the touch focus areas have been enlarged to be more finger-touch friendly.
“The HTC Touch Pro2 and HTC Touch Diamond2 introduce a mobile communication experience that simplifies how we communicate with

people in our lives whether through voice, text or email,” said Peter Chou, president and CEO, HTC Corp.

“HTC is delivering the latest, cutting-edge sophistication in a broad portfolio of mobile phones that improve how people live, work and communicate.”
Both handsets also introduce HTC's Push Internet technology, where users can preselect their favorite Websites to get immediate access to them when needed.

The HTC Touch Diamond2 is the next step in the evolution of the successful HTC Touch Diamond.

It incorporates a larger 3.2-inch high-resolution wide-screen VGA display for a greater viewing area in a design just 13.7mm thick. The phone also includes a new touch sensitive zoom bar for even faster zooming of Web pages, emails, text messages, photos or documents.

The Touch Pro2 features a high-resolution 3.6-inch widescreen VGA display for an expanded viewing area and large QWERTY keyboard.

The new HTC Touch Pro2 leverages voice in a new way to create one of the most sophisticated communication experiences found on a mobile phone. HTC's new Straight Talk technology delivers an integrated email, voice and speakerphone experience. Users can transition seamlessly from email to single or multi-party conference calls and turn any location into a conference room.

The HTC Touch Diamond2 will be available to customers across major European and Asian markets in early Q2 2009 with broader global availability coming later in the year. The Touch Pro2 will be available across major global markets beginning in early summer.

Sony Ericsson Unveils 12.1 Megapixel Camera Phone

Sony Ericsson is unveiling a 12.1 megapixel cameraphone W995 Walkman phone at Mobile World Congress.

The company is also showing a mobile phone under the concept name Idou giving a glimpse of one of a number of projects that will be launched this year under a brand-name of “Entertainment Unlimited”.

“Entertainment Unlimited lets us reinforce our position as the communication entertainment brand,” said Lennard Hoornik Head of Global Marketing and Vice President at Sony Ericsson.

“Everything that we have done to date has brought us to this point - we created the music phone category in 2005 selling over 100 million Walkman phones and we are now ready to unveil the next chapter in the evolution of the company - Entertainment Unlimited - giving consumers unlimited opportunities to share their entertainment experiences.”
Dick Komiyama, President, Sony Ericsson said, “Entertainment Unlimited

is at the core of Sony Ericsson's philosophy, building on the strength of our great entertainment assets such as Walkman and Cyber-shot phones and our unique service and applications integration. Many of the strategic initiatives we've announced in the past year have laid the internal framework to launch this new consumer proposition to the market and Sony Ericsson is now ready to drive the next wave of market development with Entertainment Unlimited.”
The Symbian based Idou (a concept name only) will be available 2nd half of 2009.

…Shows Off 8.1 Megapixel Cameraphone

Sony Ericsson has announced the launch of an 8.1 mega-pixel cameraphone under their Walkman brand - the W995.

The phone will also be the first in a range including a “Media Go” platform which the company says makes it easier to sync content between phone and computer.

“With Media Go there's no need to worry about format, resolution and 'frame per second' anymore,” said Alexandre Cardon, Global Marketing Business Manager at Sony Ericsson.

“No longer will the video you transferred from your PC to your phone play in low resolution or bad quality. With Media Go and the W995 the experience is as good on your phone as it was on your PC.”

The phone also comes with an 8GB Memory Stick, and supports both 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity.
The W995 Walkman supports GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and UTMS/HSPA 900/2100. W995 will be available in selected markets from Q2.

Behold Nokia's 6710 Navigator And 6720 Classic

Since the first Nokia Navigator made its appearance two years ago, the company has been updating and improving its location based services steadily and has now introduced the latest arrival in its Navigator line, the Nokia 6710 Navigator. Another new arrival is the Nokia 6720 classic - a traditional candybar phone.

“The navigation solution provided by the Nokia 6710 Navigator is second to none and provides everything you would expect from a dedicated GPS device with all the benefits of a converged mobile device,” says Markku Suomi, vice president at Nokia.

The solution includes the latest developments in the Maps software with real time 'drive and walk' navigation, full regional maps and hardware elements like the dedicated navigator key, touch area for easy zooming and a large display optimized for outdoor viewing. The recent integration of Maps with Ovi allows people to pre-plan their journey at home on their PC and synchronize with their mobile device. Additionally, Maps has

been updated to include a number of new features such as high-resolution aerial images, 3D landmarks for over 200 cities, terrain maps, weather service, premium travel and events content and traffic and safety warnings.

With both of the new devices including a compass, working in conjunction with the new features of Maps, the pedestrian navigation experience has been significantly improved.

To complement the mapping capabilities, both the Nokia 6710 Navigator and the Nokia 6720 classic offer an improved design with a slightly curved shape.

When holding the devices to take photos with the 5 megapixel camera, standard with Carl Zeiss optics and dual LED flash on both handsets, the new shape is said to make them easier to hold. “With the high quality

camera and GPS capability of both devices, geo-tagging the exact location a picture is taken is easier than ever,” continues Suomi.

The Nokia 6720 classic also includes active noise cancellation, a feature appearing for the first time in the Nokia 6720 classic, which significantly improves the quality of voice by cutting down on external ambient sounds.

The Nokia 6720 classic is expected to begin shipping in the second quarter of 2009 at an estimated retail price of 245 EUR before taxes and subsidies.

The Nokia 6710 Navigator will join in the third quarter with an estimated retail price of 300 EUR, before taxes and subsidies.

Huawei Unveils World's 1st Unified LTE Solution

Huawei has demonstrated the world's first unified frequency-division duplex and time-division duplex (FDD/TDD) long-term evolution (LTE) solution.

The company says the new unified FDD/TDD LTE solution enables more efficient utilization of spectrum resources and helps operators deliver mobile broadband networks at a significantly reduced cost.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to showcase some of our strongest and latest range of mobile solutions and products to the world of telecommunications at this year's Mobile World Congress,” said Mr. Wan Biao, President of Huawei Wireless Product Line.

“Huawei hopes to pave the way for network convergence and evolution by developing innovative solutions that enable operators to simplify and unify their networks in preparation for future mobile service demand”.

In January 2009, Huawei was awarded the world's first LTE commercial contract by TeliaSonera, the largest telecommunication operator in Scandinavia and the Baltic countries.

Huawei was also selected by Telus and Bell to deploy North America's first LTE-oriented HSPA network in Canada in 2008. As of today, Huawei's LTE research has made more than 2,100 contributions to LTE and system architecture evolution, and the company owns ten percent of all LTE patents.

Samsung Plans 50” Video Projector

Samsung has announced plans to launch its first mobile phone with a built-in projector, which can beam an image up to 50” wide onto any surface.

The Samsung projector phones utilize the Texas Instruments, DLP Pico Chipset to remove the limitations of the traditional mobile phone screen by easily providing “big picture” viewing experiences.

“Working together, Samsung and Texas Instruments, DLP(R) products have made headway in a currently untapped market,” said Wonsik Lee, Vice President of R&D Planning Team at Samsung Electronics.

“This is an exciting time for the mobile phone industry as we transform the limitations of the mobile phone viewing experience to compelling image sizes that really adds significant value to both business and consumer users.”

With the DLP technology enabled Samsung projector phones you can now turn what has traditionally been an individual experience into a shared

viewing opportunity for mobile content. By projecting content you can easily broaden the viewable image in a matter of seconds for ample screening.
